South West Norfolk MP Liz Truss joined reserve manager Jonathan Usher Smith on a guided tour through the Watatunga Wildlife Reserve in Watlington. Home to antelope, deer and rare bird species, the reserve extends to 170 acres of lakes, woods and grass lands. Opened in 2020, Watatunga is the brainchild of Ed Pope who was keen to shape the unique fenland landscape into a habitat for the conservation of native and non-native species.

Watatunga also offers private self-catered accommodation with picturesque views over the landscape and animals. Visitors are able to hire electric buggies and take a drive by tour of the facility.

Liz commented ‘’Fantastic to visit Watatunga Wildlife Reserve to see the wide variety of deer, antelope and bird life. Wonderful experience driving through the reserve; the investment in the site is incredibly impressive and is a tremendous boost to the local economy. Many visitors from across the country are enjoying Watatunga and it certainly provides for a unique and wonderful day out. ‘’

Ed Pope said "Having opened last year in the middle of the pandemic, it has been really exciting to share our conservation work with visitors and the feedback has been phenomenal."
