Truss anger at rail delays and overcrowding

South West Norfolk MP Elizabeth Truss today welcomed the Secretary of State for Transport’s statement in the House of Commons when he committed to a special compensation scheme for rail passengers affected by delays and cancellations on the GTR routes. The Transport Secretary, Chris Grayling, appeared before MPs to address the issues with the new rail timetable that was introduced last month. The Secretary of State also said that the Department for Transport will investigate whether GTR and Network Rail have met their commitments and if not, action will be taken.

Elizabeth Truss MP said ‘ I am extremely pleased that action is being taken by the Secretary of State for Transport. Rail travellers in South West Norfolk are experiencing delays and cancellations that are simply not acceptable.  Last year I raised my concerns about the new timetable with the Transport Secretary, and I will continue to ensure that decisive action is taken to improve the service for passengers. I have also have raised with ministers my frustration about the delay to the eight car trains on the Kings Lynn to London line. Standing room only is not what I want to see on the Fenline or the Thetford route and combined with longer journey times, cancellations and replacement bus services – Network Rail and the train operating companies must be held to account so I am glad the Secretary of State has committed to do this.'
