This is the thirty-third monthly report from Elizabeth Truss MP updating residents on her activities.
Local Issues: Elizabeth spoke at the public inquiry into the proposed waste to energy plant at Saddlebow. She raised the issue of PFI credits, and the expense and viability of the project. Elizabeth’s opposes the proposed plant which does not have the support of the local residents. Elizabeth met the Chairman of the Norfolk Police Federation.
Education: Elizabeth spoke about the Early Years Foundation Stage at the Nursery World conference. She spoke at the IBSCA Headteacher’s conference on maths education post 16. She spoke about financial education at the My Money Week launch. She visited France to meet officials and to see how the French nursery system is run.
Transport: Elizabeth met fellow Norfolk MP Henry Bellingham, local residents and parish councillors on the A17 to talk about improvements to the road at the Moat Road Junction. Elizabeth and Henry have taken up the issue of the A17 being reclassified as a trunk road with Stephen Hammond MP, Minister for Transport. Elizabeth met Richard Eccles, Director of Network Strategy at Network Rail, George Freeman MP and Therese Coffey MP to discuss future improvements to Norfolk’s rail lines. These involve the proposed electrification of the Greater Anglia line and an improvement to the line at Ely junction to allow more regular services from Norwich to Cambridge.
Food and Farming: She met farmers to discuss various issues including sugar beet, rural broadband and CAP reform. She is raising their concerns with DEFRA ministers.
Meetings and Events: Elizabeth met Sir Mark Walport, the Government’s Chief Scientific Adviser and Sir John Holman, Senior Fellow for Education at the Wellcome Trust. Elizabeth attended the Mayor’s reception in Swaffham.
Media: Elizabeth has appeared has appeared in the Times, the Telegraph, the Mail, the Independent, the Guardian, the Star, City AM, ITN, the Eastern Daily Press and the Lynn News. She has written articles for the Telegraph, the Eagre News, the Thetford and Swaffham Times, the Welney News and the Downham Market News. She was interviewed for BBC News, Newsnight, BBC Sunday Politics, Channel 5, ITV and KLFM.
