Elizabeth's Monthly Report March 2014
The forty-first monthly report from Elizabeth Truss MP updating residents on her activities.
Elizabeth met the Chairman of Welney Parish Council anda local business to discuss the economic impact of the flooding of the Welney Causeway. She has written to the Environment Secretary calling on him to review the current dredging policy in order to deliver a sustainable plan for the future. Elizabeth also raised the issue of the valuation of agricultural land.
Elizabeth visited Shanghai China to learn how their students have become the best in the world at maths. Elizabeth also spoke at the launch of the Maths and Numeracy All-Party Group, as well as at the opening of the Big Bang Fair for budding young scientists and engineers. She visited Wimbotsham and Stow Community Primary School and met teachers and pupils.
At a meeting with the Chief Executive of the West Norfolk Clinical Commissioning Group in King’s Lynn Elizabeth discussed the current state of healthcare in the area and the improvements being made to the QE hospital.
Elizabeth held a meeting with businesses, Visit Norfolk, and the New Anglia LEP to discuss tourism in the Brecks, and jointly announced funding from Waitrose for the Brecks Food Festival.
Elizabeth attended an event at No.10 for International Women’s Day, and met Winter Olympic Gold Medal winner Lizzy Yarnold. She opened a new warehouse for Glass Guard in Thetford and met Narborough Parish Council to discuss local and national issues including the possible upgrade of the A47.
Elizabeth attended a meeting of Southery Parish Council, which was also attended by British Sugar. Further concerns were raised about HGV movements through the village. Elizabeth is keen to see a long term solution to improve the quality of life for local residents and has asked the Cabinet Member for Highways and Leader of Norfolk County Council to meet in Southery to discuss these concerns.
Elizabeth has appeared in the Telegraph, the Times, the Independent, the Financial Times, the Guardian, the Daily Mail, the Sun, the Lynn News and the Eastern Daily Press. She has written articles for the Telegraph and the Spectator. Elizabeth was interviewed for the Today programme and appeared on the BBC and ITV.
