Elizabeth's Monthly Report June 2014
The forty-fourth monthly report from Elizabeth Truss MP updating residents on her activities.
Elizabeth held a meeting with MPs from Norfolk and Suffolk, the EDP, Norfolk County Council, the Department for Transport and a range of businesses and business groups to discuss the opening of the A11 this Autumn.
Elizabeth welcomed the announcement by the Department for Transport that the new rail franchise for the Kings Lynn to London line has been awarded to Govia Thameslink Railway Ltd. The new franchise will deliver new, air-conditioned trains and half-hourly services to London.
She also attended a meeting of Wimbotsham Parish Council to discuss road safety and local bus services.
Elizabeth was pleased with the announcement by the Defence Secretary, the Rt Hon Philip Hammond MP, that RAF Marham will receive around £7.5 million to prepare for the arrival of the Joint Strike Fighter, also known as Lightning II. The investment will fund the construction of three vertical landing pads at the base.

Elizabeth opened the new Thetford Alternative Provision Free School and was given a tour by the Headteacher Nico Dobben. Elizabeth also visited Marshland High School and met the Headteacher, Elizabeth Dormor, to discuss parking and other issues.
In Parliament, Elizabeth answered questions at Education Oral Questions, and gave evidence about Children’s Centres to the Education Select Committee.
Elizabeth held a business forum with the Prime Minister’s Small Business Ambassador, Brooks Newmark MP. Businesses in South West Norfolk had the opportunity to speak to Mr Newmark and to hear from him about the Government’s measures to support small businesses. 
Elizabeth launched the new Brecks Explorer magazine, which gives a snapshot of what is on offer in the Brecks region.
Elizabeth met landowners, farmers and Natural England to discuss the protection of Stone Curlews. She wrote to the Environment Secretary following this meeting about the birds. Elizabeth also visited Thetford Forest and saw visitor facilities and timber operations there.
She also wrote to the Cabinet Office Minister, Oliver Letwin MP, about his review into the value of agricultural land. 
Elizabeth attended a service of Thanksgiving and Dedication for the appeal work at St Peter and St Paul Swaffham. The appeal raised money for the replacement windows in the church. She also attended a service and parade at the Desert Rats annual reunion. Elizabeth laid a wreath to commemorate the 70th Anniaverary of the role the 7th Armoured Division played on D-Day.
