This is the thirty-fourth monthly report from Elizabeth Truss MP updating residents on her activities.
Local Issues: Elizabeth visited Alderwood Lodges, an eco-lodge tourism attraction in Garboldisham, following their involvement in Tourism Week. She discussed business rates at the Swaffham Business Forum and has raised concerns with the Department for Communities and Local Government. She met Breckland Council’s Economic Development Team to discuss the proposed plans for Thetford. She met Superintendent Carl Edwards of the Kings Lynn and West Norfolk constabulary to discuss local crime rates. She attended the Northwold parish council meeting to discuss flooding and has taken up the issue with the Environment Department.
Education: Elizabeth met Children's Minister Edward Timpson with fellow Norfolk MPs to discuss Children’s Services. She discussed changes to GCSEs on the breakfast news. She spoke on the Childcare and Families Bill in the House of Commons. She delivered the keynote address at the Free Schools Conference at the West London Free School. She addressed the City Working Mother’s network lunch on the subject of childcare reforms. She gave the keynote speech at the Achieving 2 Year Olds national networking event.
Health: Elizabeth met Dr Ian Mack and John Ingham of the West Norfolk Clinical Commissioning Group to receive a briefing on the group’s work and raise concerns about GPs out-of-hours service.
Transport: Elizabeth held a public meeting with neighbouring MP Matthew Hancock and Network Rail to discuss the Brandon Rail Crossing. At the meeting Network Rail apologised for the poor performance of the crossing and committed to fund a bridge as part of the Brandon bypass. She met Norfolk County Council’s highways department to discuss the roads around Southery and the road signs in Thetford.
Meetings and Events: In Parliament she met pupils from Wimbotsham School to answer their questions about her work as an MP. She addressed a lunch meeting at the Institute of Economic Affairs. She attended a cheese and wine event in aid of the Swaffham Community Hospital.
Media: Elizabeth has appeared in the Telegraph, The Times, the Guardian, the Independent, the Daily Mail and the Eastern Daily Press. She has written articles for the Downham Market News, the Thetford and Swaffham Times and the Eagre news. Elizabeth was interviewed for KLFM, BBC Breakfast, Channel 5 News, Radio 5 live, Sky News, Radio Norfolk and ITV Anglia.
