Elizabeth's Monthly Report January 2014
The thirty-ninth monthly report from Elizabeth Truss MP updating residents on her activities.
Elizabeth has written to the Secretary of State for Planning and calling on him to reject the proposed incinerator in King’s Lynn. She has also called on Norfolk County Council to take advantage of the delay in planning to listen to public opposition and cancel the scheme. Elizabeth met Breckland Council to discuss economic development and promotion of the Brecks.
The Prime Minister visited the dualling of the A11 between Fiveways and Thetford with Elizabeth. He spoke of his support for further improvements in Norfolk roads. Elizabeth attended a public meeting in Walsoken with the Highways Agency and local councillors to call for improvements to the A47/Broadend Road junction. Elizabeth attended a public meeting in Brandon with Matthew Hancock MP, and made clear that while she supports a Brandon bypass in principle, any development should not be in Norfolk.

Elizabeth met representatives from small businesses, the big five banks and other Norfolk MPs at a FSB Banking Forum event on small business access to finance.
Elizabeth gave a speech at Oxford University about social mobility, the economy and education reform. Elizabeth also addressed a meeting of the All-Party Group on Sure Start Children’s Centres and spoke in the opposition day debate on teacher qualifications.
In Parliament Elizabeth met local young farmers taking part in the 2014 Sugar Industry Programme with the NFU. She also met Sigma Energy Limited in Swaffham, which produces biofuels using locally sourced materials. Elizabeth also met the King’s Lynn & District Astronomy Society at Tottenhill, and took part in an evening of star-gazing.
Elizabeth has appeared in the Telegraph, The Times, the Guardian, the Independent, the BBC News, the Daily Mail and the Eastern Daily Press. She has written articles for the Downham Market News and the Welney News. Elizabeth was interviewed for KLFM, BBC Breakfast and ITV Anglia.
