This is the thirty-sixth monthly report from Elizabeth Truss MP updating residents on her activities.
Local issues: Elizabeth addressed a meeting of the Thetford Society where she discussed the Thetford Town plan and local services. After the meeting Elizabeth wrote to Transport Minister Norman Baker MP to raise local concerns about wheelchair access on buses. Elizabeth addressed an event in the Shouldham village hall to raise money so that the King’s Arms can be purchased as a community asset. Elizabeth met residents from Thetford to discuss the provision of play parks.
Transport: Elizabeth raised concerns at the four counties rail summit in Parliament about the Ely North junction improvements being able to supply extra services to Kings Lynn as well as to Norwich. Elizabeth met the Secretary of State for Transport at the Brandon crossing with fellow MP Matthew Hancock. They also visited the improvement works taking place on the A11.
Health: After the concerning reports by CQC and Monitor about the performance of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Elizabeth and fellow MP Henry Bellingham wrote to the Secretary of State for Health Jeremy Hunt MP to seek urgent action.
Education: Elizabeth released her More Affordable Childcare proposals which aim to increase the amount of high-quality affordable childcare. Elizabeth visited the open day at Sheridan School in Northwold. She officially opened the Isaac Newton Free School in Norwich. She visited the new building at Thetford Academy.
Meetings and Events: Elizabeth attended the opening of the new building at the Westacre Theatre. She opened the “Meet the Tudors” finale at the Thetford festival. And she opened the Magdalen fun day.
Media: Elizabeth was interviewed for KLFM, BBC Look East and ITV Anglia News. She has appeared in articles in The Times, the Telegraph, the Guardian, the BBC, the Eastern Daily Press and the Lynn News. She has written articles for The Telegraph, the Downham Market News, the Welney News and the Eagre News.
