“I am fighting to save Britain and the West. I believe in liberty, free enterprise and the sovereignty of the British people.”
56th Prime Minister of the United Kingdom · Sunday Times bestselling author · Host of The Liz Truss Show
Born in Oxford in 1975 and raised in Paisley and Leeds, Liz Truss grew up watching the failures of Labour-run local government. She studied Philosophy, Politics and Economics at Merton College, Oxford, before building a career as an economist and qualified management accountant in the energy and telecommunications industries. She later served as Deputy Director of the think tank Reform.
Elected as the Conservative Member of Parliament for South West Norfolk in 2010, she spent more than a decade in continuous ministerial office. She held six Cabinet positions — Environment, Justice (and Lord Chancellor), Chief Secretary to the Treasury, International Trade, Foreign Secretary, and Minister for Women and Equalities — before becoming Leader of the Conservative Party and the 56th Prime Minister of the United Kingdom in September 2022.
As Prime Minister she led the country through the national mourning for Queen Elizabeth II and the accession of King Charles III. Her government pursued a bold agenda of tax cuts, energy security and supply-side reform aimed at restoring growth and reducing the size of the state.
Since leaving office she has remained a leading voice for free enterprise, free speech and national sovereignty. Her 2024 Sunday Times bestseller Ten Years to Save the West sets out the scale of the challenge facing Western democracies. She is the founder of CPAC Great Britain, hosts The Liz Truss Show, and continues to campaign internationally for conservative renewal.
Liz Truss lives in London with her husband, Hugh O’Leary, and their two daughters.

Government has got too big and intrusive. We need to fight for the future of the West.
The foundation of a free society. We must resist the capture of our institutions by those who would silence dissent.
Lower taxes, less regulation, and the ability of people and families to shape their own lives and create prosperity.
Power must rest with elected representatives, not unelected bureaucrats, international courts or the deep state.
Control of our borders, energy independence, and a strong defence against authoritarian regimes.
The state has grown too large and intrusive. We need supply-side reform, tax cuts and real growth.
Defend our values, culture and way of life against wokeism, eco-zealotry and those who would manage our decline.
Lessons from the only conservative in the room
“A call to action for fellow conservatives who share my belief in our nation and our way of life.”
Over a decade at the highest levels of British government, Liz Truss witnessed the rise of authoritarianism abroad and the adoption of global left ideas at home. Too often she was the only conservative in the room.
From her final meeting with Queen Elizabeth II to confrontations with Putin and Xi, this book reveals the scale of the crisis facing Western civilisation and sets out how true conservatives can fight back.
Paperback edition now available — including new chapters reflecting on why the Conservatives lost the 2024 general election and how the right must now regroup.
