Elizabeth to host Cambridge lines meeting

Wednesday, 25 January, 2012

Tomorrow (25 January 2012) councillors, council officers, LEPs from across East Anglia will travel to Westminster to meet MPs to present the evidence  for the upgrade of the Ely North junction. The upgrade of this junction will benefit three busy train lines, the Fen Line to Kings Lynn, Norwich and Peterborough lines. The meeting chaired by Elizabeth will compile the economic benefits for an upgrade, the cost benefit analysis, strategies and timeline with the aim to secure the £10 million of funding from the Commercial Secretary to the Treasury Lord Sassoon.

Elizabeth said ahead of the meeting, ‘The Ely North Junction upgrade will translate into real benefits for all three lines including the Fen Line to Kings Lynn and Norwich to Cambridge lines. It will be possible to increase the service on these routes to a half hourly one. The £10 million investment is not a huge sum for an infrastructure project yet will create significant economic impact throughout the region. The level of commitment to achieve this is illustrated by the representation from the councils, the LEPs and the train providers all collaborating with Members of Parliament. This is what I will show to Lord Sassoon when we present the case for the funding.’
