This is the first monthly report from Elizabeth Truss MP updating residents on her activities. Elizabeth has now established an office in Westminster and will do so shortly in the constituency.

Parliamentary activity:

Elizabeth was sworn in on 20th May and made her Maiden Speech to the House on 8th June, calling for improved infrastructure and specialist skills in Norfolk. Elizabeth has participated in elections for Deputy Speakers and Chairmen of Select Committees.

Local services:

Following residents complaints about the closure of Kenninghall Post Office, Elizabeth contacted the Post Office HQ and the service has been resumed. Elizabeth met with NHS Norfolk to discuss the dispensing practice at Terrington St John, on behalf of local residents. She has met with officers and councillors at King’s Lynn and West Norfolk Council to discuss the sewage smells at West Walton and is seeking a meeting with Anglian Water on the subject. She raised issues of car parking with the Chief Executive of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, King's Lynn.

Education :

Following constituents raising concerns about Science and Maths A-levels, Elizabeth asked a question in the House of Commons to the Secretary of State for Education. Elizabeth will be visiting Swaffham Infant School and Hammonds High School (9th July ).

Treasury:

Elizabeth raised constituent concerns on taxation with David Gauke, Exchequer Secretary to the Treasury.

Roads:

Elizabeth met Department of Transport civil servants with Matt Hancock MP (West Suffolk) to address the dualling of the A11. She also received a petition from residents of Walpole Highway with Cllr Tony Wright to put in place speed signs. This has now been agreed by the County Council.

Agriculture:

Elizabeth attended the NFU reception on 19th May and raised local concerns about the Rural Payments Agency mapping exercise with Jim Paice MP, the new farming minister.

Meetings and Events:

Elizabeth met the following organisations: Thetford Society, Keystone Development Trust, Shadwell Estate and Frimstone Aggregates. She attended the following events: Swaffham Fun Day, Beachamwell Open Gardens, Northwold Carnival, Thetford Garden Show and Open Gardens, Thetford Civic Service, Philip Jones Retrospective at Clermont Hall, Art at the Park at Croxton and Dinner with High Sherriff, Norfolk MPs and Tim Kinnaird, runner up of Masterchef.

Upcoming events and surgeries

· There will be a Farming Forum on 2nd July for local farmers to discuss agriculture policy. Please contact Fiona Walker on fiona.walker@parliament.uk or 01842 757345 if you are interested in attending.  A business forum for local businesses will be held in September - date TBA.

· Elizabeth will be holding surgeries on the following days and times:

o 11th June (Thetford) - 5-7pm - just held

o 9th July (Downham Market) - 5-7pm

o 10th September (Swaffham) - 5-7pm
